WestJet Announces New UltraBasic Fare

Starting June 4, 2024, WestJet is introducing the UltraBasic fare, replacing the former Basic fare. While UltraBasic remains the most affordable option, it’s important to be aware of its limitations, especially as airlines continue to reduce offerings for passengers.

Carry-On Bags:

  • Domestic and Transborder Flights: Carry-on bags are not allowed unless you purchase Extended Comfort for all flights in a single direction, including connections.
  • Exceptions: Transatlantic or transpacific flights allow carry-on bags.
  • Personal Items: You can bring personal items that fit under the seat in front of you.
  • Checked Bags: Travelers with WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard will be able to benefit from a free checked bag by checking your bag in advance.

Pre-Assigned Seats:

  • Automatic Assignment: Seats are automatically assigned at the back of the aircraft, which may include middle seats and are not guaranteed to be together when traveling with others.
  • Optional Seat Selection: You can pre-select your seats for an additional fee.

Boarding:

  • Last to Board: UltraBasic fare passengers will be the last to board the aircraft.

Change Policy:

  • No Flexibility: Changes, cancellations, or refunds are not permitted with this fare.

WestJet Rewards:

  • No Rewards Earned: Choosing UltraBasic means missing out on earning WestJet dollars and tier qualifying spend.
