This announcement is the latest in a series of fleet expansions for Carnival Cruise Line in 2024. Additionally, the company has been making strategic moves to optimize its global brand portfolio, transferring five vessels from sister brands to Carnival Cruise Line between 2023 and March 2025, in a bid to increase guest capacity.

Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation & plc, emphasized the company’s focus on Carnival Cruise Line’s growth. “We’re doubling down on the success of Carnival Cruise Line, our highest-returning brand, to meet the unprecedented demand for the world’s most popular cruise line. Our newbuild pipeline is carefully planned, with one delivery each in 2025, 2027, 2028, 2029, 2031, and 2033. This disciplined approach allows us to strategically add capacity in the areas of highest demand, with one to two new ships per year.”

Weinstein also highlighted the long-term benefits of this order, noting that it will contribute to the company’s overall measured capacity growth of approximately 1.5% per year between 2025 and 2033. “This growth strategy provides the flexibility to allocate new capacity to high-return brands like Carnival Cruise Line, while also executing our responsible capital strategy. Over the next few years, we’ll leverage our strong free cash flow to improve our balance sheet, significantly reduce debt, and deliver value to our shareholders.”

These new ships will be the largest in Carnival Corporation’s global fleet, with over 3,000 guest staterooms and the capacity to accommodate nearly 8,000 guests at full occupancy. By 2033, Carnival Corporation will have 16 LNG-powered ships, including eight for Carnival Cruise Line, representing almost 30% of the company’s global capacity. The new vessels will not only offer more fun for more guests but also incorporate advanced energy efficiency, waste management, and emission reduction technologies to minimize the company’s environmental impact.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, expressed his pride in the partnership with Carnival Cruise Line. “We are thrilled to collaborate on this new class of ships, which will be the largest ever built by Fincantieri and the largest ship ever constructed in Italy. Nearly five months after the Sun Princess set sail, Princess Cruises has announced that three anticipated features in the Park19 family recreation area will not be opening as planned. When the ship debuted with this section of the ship closed many believed they would open when they were able to be completed. Sadly, despite framing being present on board for the activities, plans to complete them and open have been scrapped.

The Rollglider, known as SeaBreeze, was poised to be a first at-sea experience. A zipline-type activity, the overhead track would have allowed riders, securely seated and harnessed, to reach speeds of up to 11 mph during a thrilling 60- to 90-second ride.

Coastal Climb was designed as a unique climbing structure that would have taken participants from Deck 19 to Deck 20 through a series of obstacles, offering breathtaking views before descending back down.

The cruise line released a statement noting, “We are unable to accept delivery of the Rollglider, Coastal Climb, and Ropes Course attractions in Park19 aboard the Sun Princess, and these experiences will not be available.” The company also mentioned they are currently exploring alternative recreational opportunities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.

Despite these setbacks, Park19 still offers Infinite Horizon, where leaning tilt walls extend over the side of the ship, allowing guests to look down from Deck 19 to Deck 9 and beyond.

Fraunces Tavern’s story begins in 1762 when the West Indian innkeeper, leased the building and transformed it into the “Queen’s Head Tavern.” The tavern quickly became a hub of social and political activity, frequented by influential figures and revolutionaries of the time. Samuel Fraunces, known for his exceptional culinary skills, managed to create an inviting atmosphere that drew the elite of New York.

One of the most notable patrons of Fraunces Tavern was famously George Washington. Washington’s connection to the tavern is legendary; it was here that he bid farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolutionary War on December 4, 1783. The tearful farewell, held in the Long Room, became an iconic moment, symbolizing the end of the struggle for independence and the start of a new nation.

Washington’s fondness for Fraunces’ cooking was well-documented. Samuel Fraunces, often referred to as “Black Sam,” was renowned for his culinary prowess. In early 1785 Samuel Fraunces sold the tavern to Brooklyn butcher, George Powers.

It was a meeting place for the Sons of Liberty, a headquarters for American and British forces at different times, and a venue for significant political events. The tavern’s strategic location made it a natural gathering spot for discussions that shaped the course of the nation.

After the war, the building continued to play an important role. It housed federal offices, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, and remained a central part of New York’s social scene.

On July 4, 1804, Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton attended a meeting of the Society of Cincinnati at the Tavern, a week before their famous duel.

Following three serious fires in 1832, 1837, and 1852, the current owners added modern additions including two additional floors that were used for boarding rooms and a flat roof.

However, by the mid-19th century, the building’s significance began to fade, and it no longer bore a resemblance to the original structure.

The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a renewed interest in preserving America’s historical landmarks. In 1904, the Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York acquired the building and embarked on a mission to restore it to its former glory.

During this restoration, they stripped away the previous additions and found the original red bricks on the Pearl Street side and yellow bricks on the Broad Street side along with the roof line.

Their efforts culminated in the reopening of Fraunces Tavern as a museum and restaurant in 1907, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the American Revolution.

Today, Fraunces Tavern operates as both a museum and a restaurant, continuing its tradition as a place of hospitality and history. The Fraunces Tavern Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the past with exhibits that showcase artifacts from the Revolutionary era, including items related to George Washington and his farewell address.

Fort St. Catherine dates back to the early 17th century, having been constructed in 1614 to defend Bermuda from potential invaders. Over the centuries, it has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, evolving into the formidable structure it is today. The fort played a crucial role in Bermuda’s defense system and now serves as a museum, offering visitors a window into the island’s military history. There are approximately 90 forts around the island of Bermuda.
