Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Biltmore Estate stands as a testament to opulence, history, and architectural grandeur. A visit to this American treasure is more than just a tour; it’s a journey through time, luxury, and nature. If you’re planning a trip to Asheville, NC, the Biltmore Estate is an absolute must-see. Here’s a guide to help you make the most of your visit.

Commissioned by George Washington Vanderbilt II, the Biltmore Mansion was completed in 1895. Designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, this French Renaissance-style chateau is the largest privately-owned house in the United States, spanning over 175,000 square feet with 250 rooms. The estate originally covered 125,000 acres but now sits on a more modest 8,000 acres, still providing ample space for exploration and wonder.

Biltmore Estate 2023

As you approach the Biltmore Estate, the grandeur of the mansion immediately captivates you. The expansive grounds and the mansion’s towering facade set the stage for a day of exploration and discovery.

We arrived early so we could walk around the grounds before it started to get busy. Biltmore offers a couple of parking lots close to the house with buses to transport you if needed.

The property itself is set back quite far from the main gates. The drive in is absolutely beautiful with stone-lined roads, incredible greenery, and waterfalls.

The stables have been turned into a few shops(candy store, toys store, and souvenirs) along with a restaurant. In the courtyard, they have snacks and an ice cream stand.

To enter the house you must go through security and then line up for your time slot.

The House Tour

Entering the mansion feels like stepping into another era. The house tour is self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace. Each room coordinates with a number you press on the handset where they give you information about the space you’re in.

Highlights of the tour include:

  • The Banquet Hall: Featuring a 70-foot-high ceiling, Flemish tapestries from the 1500s, and a massive fireplace, this room was designed for grand gatherings.
  • The Library: Home to Vanderbilt’s collection of over 10,000 books, the library showcases a beautifully painted ceiling by artist Giovanni Pellegrini.

  • The Indoor Winter Garden: A lush, plant-filled atrium bathed in natural light, providing a tranquil retreat.

  • The Basement: Housing a swimming pool, bowling alley, and gymnasium, the basement reveals the estate’s commitment to modern amenities and entertainment.

In addition your tour takes you through George and Edith’s private bedrooms, their common space, the games room, the guest rooms, the music room and you will also get an incredible view of the property from the back porch.

The Gardens and Grounds

Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the gardens and grounds of Biltmore are a horticultural masterpiece. If you would like to just visit the grounds they have a general admission that doesn’t include the house. Pets are also welcome if you are touring the gardens and grounds. They must be leashed at all times.

  • The Walled Garden: A formal garden featuring seasonal flowers, geometric designs, and a conservatory with tropical plants.

  • The Bass Pond: A peaceful spot perfect for a leisurely walk or a moment of quiet contemplation.

Biltmore Conservatory

Also designed by Richard Morris Hunt the conservatory serves as a greenhouse for the estate’s lush flora.

The conservatory showcases classic Victorian greenhouse architecture, featuring a combination of glass, metal, and brick. The design ensures optimal light and climate control for the plants.

The conservatory is filled was an impressive variety of plants, including exotic orchids, ferns, palms, and seasonal flowers. This diverse collection is carefully curated to provide a year-round display of blooms and foliage. There are also several themed rooms, each dedicated to different plant species or horticultural themes including the Orchid Room, the Palm House, and the Azalea Room, among others.

As part of the larger Biltmore Estate, the conservatory holds historical significance, reflecting the Gilded Age’s fascination with botany and the desire to bring exotic plant species to American soil.

    Tips for a Perfect Visit

    1. Plan Ahead: Purchase tickets online in advance to secure your preferred entry time and avoid long lines.
    2. Dress Comfortably: Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking both indoors and outdoors.
    3. Stay Hydrated and Nourished: There are several dining options on the estate, but bringing a water bottle and some snacks can be handy.
    4. Photography: Photography is allowed inside the mansion, but flash and tripods are prohibited. Be sure to capture the beauty around you, especially in the gardens.
    5. Explore the Surroundings: If time allows, take a drive or hike through the Blue Ridge Parkway to fully appreciate the stunning natural beauty of the region.

    Nestled in the picturesque town of St. George’s, Bermuda, lies an enigmatic relic of history that has captivated locals and tourists alike for over a century – the Unfinished Church. With its towering walls and open-air sanctuary, this architectural marvel offers a glimpse into Bermuda’s past and invites visitors to ponder what might have been.

    The story of the Unfinished Church begins in the late 19th century. St. Peter’s Church, the primary place of worship in St. George’s, suffered extensive damage from hurricanes, prompting the local Anglican community to seek a new, grander place of worship. The vision for the Unfinished Church was ambitious: a majestic Gothic revival structure that would serve as a spiritual and cultural centerpiece for the town.



    Construction of the Unfinished Church commenced in 1874. The design, characterized by its pointed arches, intricate stonework, and soaring spires, promised a magnificent addition to Bermuda’s architectural landscape. However, the project soon encountered a series of setbacks that would ultimately halt its progress.

    Financial difficulties plagued the project from the start. Fundraising efforts fell short, and the community struggled to gather the necessary resources to complete the grand design. Additionally, disagreements among the congregation and church leadership about the project’s direction and cost further complicated matters.

    Nature also played a role in the church’s unfinished fate. In 1899, a powerful hurricane caused significant damage to the partially constructed building. With limited funds and increasing doubts about the feasibility of completing the project, the decision was made to abandon the construction altogether.


    Despite its incomplete state, the Unfinished Church stands with its weathered stone walls and empty window frames, exude a haunting beauty that captivates visitors.


    The site has become a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a unique venue for weddings, photography, and quiet contemplation. The Bermuda National Trust, recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the Unfinished Church, has undertaken efforts to preserve and maintain the site, ensuring that future generations can experience its beauty.



    Located within walking distance from the heart of St. George’s, the church is easily accessible and well worth the visit. As you explore the ruins, take a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship of the stonework, the soaring arches that frame the sky, and the lush greenery that now inhabits the space. Visitors often pass it on their way to Tabacco Bay or Fort St. Catherine.

    If you’re looking to experience the Disney magic this Summer it’s almost the best time to book! Starting May 29, 2024, Disneyland Resort will unveil its new, limited-time ticket offer. With the 3-Day Disneyland Ticket Offer, families planning to visit can enjoy three days of park admission for as low as $50 per child (ages 3-9) and $83 per adult, per day. These special tickets start at $149 for children and $249 for adults for admission Monday through Thursdays, or as low as $199 for children and $299 for adults for admission any day including weekends, based on availability and theme park reservations. Plus, guests can upgrade to Park Hopper tickets or include Disney Genie+ service at the time of purchase for added flexibility and convenience.

    The promotion notes that parkgoers can redeem their tickets for any three eligible days (which can be non-consecutive) between June 10 and Sept. 26, 2024, subject to park reservation availability.

We’re hoping this means we can say goodbye to pricey and inconvenient day passes at resorts as this all-new beach club is operated fully by the cruise line, and promises an unparalleled island getaway.

    Scheduled to open its doors in 2025, the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island will redefine the beach experience, blending the allure of The Bahamas with Royal Caribbean’s signature hospitality. Led by Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty and Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley, alongside The Bahamas’ Prime Minister Philip Davis and Deputy Prime Minister I.     From images, it appears the location is close to the pier and it will include kid-friendly options like a splash pad and a shallow pool.
