The Genesee River cuts through the park, creating three impressive waterfalls that cascade down cliffs as high as 600 feet. For nature lovers, the park provides stunning views at every turn, with overlooks allowing visitors to take in panoramic views of the river gorge, waterfalls, and lush forests.
The park was originally founded by William Pryor Letchworth. In the late 19th century, he acquired land along the Genesee River, known for its stunning waterfalls and deep gorge. Wanting to preserve its natural beauty, he gradually expanded his estate, building Glen Iris as his home. In 1907, he donated over 1,000 acres of land to the State of New York, which became Letchworth State Park. His conservation efforts helped ensure the protection of this scenic area for us to enjoy!
The State Park has a museum with displays on Native American history, focusing on the Seneca people who once lived in the region, as well as geological features like the park’s famous gorges and waterfalls. There are also exhibits on the Civilian Conservation Corps, which played a significant role in developing the park’s infrastructure during the 1930s.

- Day Pass: $10 per vehicle for a day pass.
