Family’s Nature Hike Turns Into A Three Day Fight For Survival

When J.R Kimbler and his two children – Dakota, 10, and Jade, 6 – set out for a nature hike in Congaree National Park on Saturday they had no idea the day trip would turn into a fight for survival. Not long into their adventure they found themselves lost in the 27,000-acre park with no food, water, supplies or cell service. J.R Kimbler with his kids Dakota and Jade J.R. was able to send one text before his phone died, which set off a search party of 80 people who scoured the park by foot, boat and helicopter. A taxi driver, the South Carolina dad told ABC News he has no survival training, with the exception of  watching the ‘Survivor’ series on TV. Out in the wilderness for almost 60 hours, J.R. kept his kids alive by giving them dirty rain water, which collected in puddle, and unsuccessfully trying to eat wild turkey eggs. The family’s lucky break came when park ranger, Jared Gurtler, passed nearby. He heard J.R’s voice and responded.
“I eventually got what I thought was a human voice saying, ‘Please come help us,'” Gurtler said.
Thankfully they were dehydrated but OK.  Next time however, J.R’s plans are less ambitious!
“Somewhere indoors,” Kimbler said. “I’m going to Google it first.”

Unwind at the Naay Spa at El Dorado Resort, Mexico

No vacation is complete without some you time and the Naay Spa at El Dorado Casitas Royale by Karisma excels at creating an experience that will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated.   This 20,000-sq-ft. facility provides guests with the opportunity to experience an impressive menu of traditional and alternative spa therapies. Naay Spa at Eldorado - outside My morning of relaxation started in the hot sauna. After sweating off a pound or two I cooled down quickly in the shower before making my way to the steam sauna for a pore opening vapour session. I was then escorted into the hydrotherapy room.  Here you can relax in the sensations pool, which has a bubble bed, a couple water falls to loosen up your body and jets to massage your legs.  Guests can also unwind in the whirlpool and then jump right into the cold water polar plunge pool. Naay Spa at Eldorado - Sensations Pool But just before I settled into my lounge chair with my mimosa I noticed an outdoor space with more lounge chairs, a meditation space and a second relaxing pool. Naay Spa at Eldorado - outdoor lounge and pool area Guests can also take part in a Mexican holistic ritual in the temazcal, which is said to purify and relax the mind and body.  A relaxing oasis, there was also a small herb garden and snacks to enjoy. Naay Spa at Eldorado - outdoor meditation and temazcal I was so into with the ‘pre-process’ that I almost forgot I hadn’t had my treatment. I really could have just lounged around all day. I chose a massage, and Rita my masseuse was a wizard. I rarely treat myself to a day at the spa but that morning made me realize that I really need to do it more. Naay Spa at Eldorado - after massage relaxation If you are staying at El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Casitas or, at Generations Riviera Maya like I was I highly recommend a trip to the Naay spa. The staff really goes the extra mile to ensure your time with them is extraordinary.  All three resorts also have many areas outdoor that guests can be pampered in while taking in the sounds of paradise. Please enjoy the quick video I made highlighting the spa! Please visit Karisma Hotels for more information

California Teen Survives Five Hour Flight To Hawaii In Airplane’s Wheel Well

0
We all are eager to get away from our homes from time to time, go on a vacation, see an exotic location or two. It clears our minds of the mundane and helps refresh our souls and our senses. But, most of us vacation the proper way, purchasing our airline tickets and anything else we’ll need to get away from it all for a little bit. A 15 year-old California boy went on one incredible adventure over the holiday weekend when he found his way into an airplane’s wheel well for a freezing-cold five-hour flight that landed in Hawaii. Hawaiian Airlines The Santa Clara, California boy was seen climbing out of the Boeing 767’s left rear wheel well on Sunday by airport employees, where he was immediately escorted inside and was interviewed by the FBI. Honolulu FBI spokesman Tom Simon says,
“He got very lucky that he got to go to Maui but he was not targeting Maui as a destination. He passed out in the air and didn’t regain consciousness until an hour after the plain had landed.”
Experts are baffled at how the teen survived the five-hour flight in the unpressurized space, where temperatures often fall below zero, and the air becomes extremely thin, making nearly impossible for a human to stay conscious. teen stores away in airplane wheel A study conducted by the FAA has found that some people can survive because their bodies enter a hibernation-like state. Isaac Yeffet, former head of security for the Israeli airline El Al says that despite the billions of dollars invested, the United Sates airport security still has it’s weaknesses, stating,
“Shame on us for doing such a terrible job, perimeters are not well protected. We see it again and again.”
Representative Eric Swalwell of the San Francisco Bay Area commented via Twitter, saying,
“I have long been concerned about security at our airport perimeters. #Stowaway teen demonstrates vulnerabilities that need to be addressed.”
On Monday, the authorities began the task of trying to figure out how the teenager evaded the multiple levels of security at the airport, including their wide-range video surveillance, police officers and German Shepard dogs. Rosemary Barnes, San Jose International Airport spokeswoman says that the airport’s employees monitor the security video feeds that are all over the 1,050-acre airport 24 hours a day. She adds that none of the employees had noticed the image of an unidentified person walking around the airport ramp and approaching the flight bound for Hawaii until security agents had reviewed the footage after the plane had touched down in Hawaii and the boy had been located. Various areas around the airport are surrounded by barbed wire fence, but some are not, and those areas can easily be scaled, where one would find access to the tarmac and easy access to the planes grounded there. Barnes says that the boy had found his way onto the tarmac sometime during the night, “under the cover of darkness.” Hours later at Kahului airport in Hawaii, surveillance footage showed the teen getting himself out of the wheel well after the plane had landed, according to a statement by Hawaii’s Department of Transportation. The video was not released due to the pending investigation. Alison Croyle, Hawaiian Airlines spokeswoman said after the flight had arrived, airline personnel had spotted the boy on the ramp, after which they immediately notified airline security. Croyle adds,
“Our primary concern now is for the well-being of the boy, who is exceptionally lucky to have survived.”
Inside the airport, checkpoint security is handled by the Transportation Security Administration, while the outside airport perimeters are monitored by the local authorities, in addition to federal law enforcement. Currently, the airport police are collaborating with the TSA and the FBI to review security. The teen has been released to child-protective services in Hawaii, and was not charged with a crime. The owners of the California airport are not planning on pressing criminal charges against the boy, according to the information currently available. SOURCE

UK Family’s Car Bursts Into Flames In The Middle Of Tour Through Lion Enclosure

0
A UK family is lucky to be safe after their vehicle burst into flames while they were visiting Longleat Safari Park over the weekend.  In most car fire situations everyone would just get out, but in this case they were in the middle of a tour through the Lion enclosure. Video released by another tourist shows Helen Clements minivan on fire in the part of the safari park that is home to 12 lions. Helen Clements Car on fire in the Lion Enclosure at Longleat Safari Park Helen was visiting Longleat Safari Park with her nine-year-old son George and daughter Charlie, 12, on Good Friday when their vehicle overheated. She told the BBC,
“I thought the car had overheated. Then basically, we thought: ‘No, that’s not steam, that’s actually smoke’. “It was getting thicker and thicker and obviously coming into us, and then obviously we saw flames.”
Immediately sounding her horn, she caught the attention of ranges who came over to extinguish the flames in the front of her van.
“Unfortunately they were shouting to us: ‘Get back in the car, do not get out of the car’. “It was a situation of – what do you do? Do you get out of the car because you’re on fire? And they’re telling you to get back in the car, so that was the dilemma.”
Thankfully the family was evacuated to a ranger vehicle with no injuries. Helen Clements Car on fire in the Lion Enclosure at Longleat Safari Park Another visitor who was touring the park said,
“We were stuck for 20 minutes in the enclosure not moving. We saw the lions being chased back to their pen by the keepers in a Land Rover quite rapidly. “Then the queue started moving and we could see smoke. Then the firefighters arrived and as we passed the fire was out.”
A spokesman for Longleat Safari Park said,
“On Friday April 18 at around 1pm, a car overheated in the first lion enclosure at Longleat Safari & Adventure Park. “The occupants of the vehicle, a female and two children, were quickly picked up by rangers who transferred them into their vehicle and the fire service was called. The car subsequently caught fire after the guests had been escorted out of their car. The lions were cleared from the enclosure and the safari park was closed. A route was cleared for the fire engine, which arrived quickly and extinguished the fire. In total the safari park was closed for 15 minutes. No-one was injured in any way and no lions were hurt. The vehicle has now been safely removed and the safari park has fully reopened to visitors.”
Note to self: Always take your newest vehicle when you will be visiting the lion enclosure!

Flight Headed to Arizona Diverted After Baby Stops Breathing

A flight from Tampa, Florida headed to Phoenix, Arizona took a scary turn on Tuesday night when a toddler onboard stopped breathing. As luck would have it two passengers came forward to help, one of them a CPR instructor, to save the 15-month-old little boy, who was reportedly turning purple. Airport hero Garrett Goodwin Garrett Goodwin spoke exclusively with FOX 10.
“I did chest compressions, cleared his mouth, gave him some rescue breathing, stimulated him. He came back around.”
Just focused on the moment he told the news channel,
“Absolutely you’re scared, but your training kicks in. I was at the right place at the right time with the right experienced training and I hope anybody with any amount of training would have done that,” said Goodwin.
Other passengers on the flight recounted the scary moment.
“I saw a gentleman rushing towards the front, they needed help and we were told a baby was in distress,” said a woman on the flight. “He ran up, had the baby held in his hand upside down, he was purple,” said a man on flight 678. “They immediately went to work and called for anybody who had medical training. There are people that assisted and we’re told there would be an emergency landing and everything went smoothly. Everyone was invested and we heard the baby cry, it was just… it was a teary moment for everyone,” said a passenger. “It was a miracle on Flight 78, god put those folks on the plane and they needed them there to take care of the baby,” said a woman on flight 678.
The flight quickly landed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston before arriving at its original destination in Phoenix about an hour late.   This delay caused many of the passengers to miss their connecting flights but nobody was heard complaining, they were just happy the baby was okay. The child, whose name is Gary is said to be doing well.
